Our menopause experts are here to listen, understand what you're going through, and help you find solutions. Together, you’ll explore what’s working, what’s not, and what treatment options could help. Choose the type of support that suits you best.
Menopause Doctor
Menopause Mentor
When you book a consultation, you’ll be asked to complete a questionnaire that captures key information about your medical history, symptoms, and goals for the consultation. Our experts use this information to understand what you’re hoping to achieve before the consultation, and prepare for an in-depth discussion shaped by your priorities.
During your consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to talk to an experienced and empathetic expert about any new or persistent symptoms that you’re experiencing. You can ask questions, learn more about possible causes and explore what steps might be best for you - from lifestyle changes to medical treatments. Our experts are here to listen, and tailor suggestions to your unique circumstances and preferences.
If you opt to speak with one of our doctors, they can discuss potential diagnoses and causes of symptoms, recommend specific treatments, write prescriptions (including HRT), and provide guidance on how to get the most out of any medication you choose to take.*
If you choose to speak with one of our menopause mentors, they can provide insights and information about menopause, discuss the pros and cons of different potential treatments, and share lifestyle advice and guidance on evidence-backed ways to improve your symptoms. They cannot provide diagnoses, write prescriptions or give individual treatment advice.
Should our experts be unable to answer your health queries on the day, or if you require further medical attention that can only be given in person, they can signpost you to a service where you can get the support you need.
*Please note that the doctor will only be able to give direct advice and support for symptoms relating to perimenopause and menopause - these consultations are not intended to cover specific conditions such as PCOS or PMDD, nor other hormonal health topics such as fertility.
Yes - all of our consultations are online, and can be taken from the comfort of your own home (or any other location that you choose).
This depends whether you select a doctor or a menopause mentor for your consultation.
Our doctors can discuss any questions you have about the HRT you are currently taking, and how it may affect your symptoms.*
You may want to talk to a doctor about your HRT if you:
Are unsure how to take it.
Would like to explore alternative forms (e.g. gels, tablets, patches).
Think that your current medication is not working as well as it should.
Are taking other medications alongside your HRT and want to know how to use them together safely.
Would like to change medications but want a doctor’s advice first.
Our mentors are not able to provide specific advice about your HRT, but they can offer general advice on the pros and cons of different treatments, and discuss non-medical options for alleviating symptoms, including lifestyle changes.
*Please note that the doctor will only be able to give you advice and support regarding HRT, not other medications for unrelated conditions.
Typically, menopause takes place between the ages of 45 and 55 years old, and perimenopause symptoms can start up to 10 years beforehand. However, the timing of menopause can vary significantly for different women, with symptoms starting much earlier or later, persisting for longer, or not occurring at all, so no two women’s experiences will be the same. We know that it’s a confusing time, and we’re here to help.
Our experts can help you identify whether you're perimenopausal or menopausal based on a number of factors including your age, symptoms and the irregularity of your menstrual cycle. If you're experiencing new symptoms, these consultations are a perfect opportunity to discuss what might be happening, and get advice on how best to proceed.
*Please note that a diagnosis of perimenopause cannot be guaranteed for women under 45 without a blood test to rule out other potential causes of symptoms. This does not prevent the discussion of symptoms and potential treatments however.
Menopause is caused by a natural decline in reproductive hormones, particularly oestrogen and progesterone, produced by the ovaries. During the stage between your periods becoming less regular, and stopping altogether (called perimenopause), you may start to experience a number of different symptoms as a result of these hormonal changes. These can continue through perimenopause and beyond, then eventually as your hormones reach a new ‘baseline’, most women find that their symptoms reduce or disappear altogether.
There is no agreed upon number of symptoms, as some can be grouped together or separated, but below is a list of the symptoms you may experience during this time:
Hot flushes and night sweats (vasomotor symptoms)
Depression, unhappiness and loss of interest
Anxiety and tension/ panic attacks
Joint pain
Difficulty sleeping
Low libido
Vaginal dryness and discomfort
Heart palpitations
Psychological symptoms - irritability and anger/ feeling tearful
Weight gain
Digestive problems
Headaches
Skin changes - dryness and acne
Skin sensations - pins and needles, tingling skin, and crawling
Restless legs
Itchiness
Aches and pains
Dry or burning mouth
Thinning hair
Difficulty concentrating and brain fog
Changes in body odour
Feeling tired or low in energy
Dry eyes and visual problems
Bladder problems
Painful sex
Vaginal prolapse
Recurring UTIs
Changes to periods
If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, our consultations are here to help you learn more, and explore treatments tailored to your unique circumstances and preferences.
The doctor/ mentor will do everything they can to give you the most helpful and effective advice possible.
However, if they're unable to help you with your health queries during the consultation, or if you require further medical attention that can only be given in person, they will signpost you to a relevant specialist who can give you the exact support you need*.
*The doctor may signpost you to a relevant specialist who operates outside of Numan.
To make the most out of your consultation, we strongly recommend that you:
Complete the pre-consultation questionnaire before your appointment
Obtain a blood pressure reading if you're interested in discussing HRT (you can check this with a calibrated home monitor, or visit your local pharmacy or GP practice)*
This way, our experts can review your responses in advance to understand what you’re hoping to achieve, and prepare for an in-depth discussion shaped by your priorities.
*Please note: blood pressure readings are not required if you're speaking with a menopause mentor (who cannot prescribe), or if you do not wish to discuss HRT.
