Switching from one weight loss medication to another can feel daunting, especially if you’ve worked hard to make progress on Mounjaro. Many people worry that moving to Wegovy will undo their results or set them “back to square one.” However, with the right plan and support, you can protect your progress and keep building on the hard work you’ve already put in.
Week 1: Finding your starting point
The first week is all about adjustment. Depending on circumstances, some people begin Wegovy at the lowest dose (0.25 mg) to give the body time to adapt gradually. But if you’ve switched from a higher dose of Mounjaro, your clinician may decide that it’s appropriate to start you on a higher Wegovy dose instead. This isn’t a straight swap: your history, tolerance, and progress all factor into the decision.
During this first week, it would be common to notice mild side effects such as nausea, constipation, or bloating. These usually settle as your body gets used to the treatment. Some people also notice they feel fuller more quickly, even at smaller portions. Keeping a journal of any changes in appetite, digestion, or side effects can help your clinician fine-tune your treatment if needed.
Week 2: Appetite changes take shape
By the second week, you’ll likely notice more consistent changes in appetite. Many people find they naturally eat smaller meals or snack less frequently without forcing it. Weight loss at this stage might still be subtle, but the early signs of progress are often there.
Some side effects may linger, but simple strategies like staying hydrated, eating slowly, and focusing on balanced, lighter meals, usually help. This is also when building a routine around your weekly injections starts to feel second nature.
From a food perspective, leaning into high-protein and high-fibre meals can help maximise the medication’s effects. Protein preserves muscle and keeps you fuller for longer, while fibre from vegetables, beans, and whole grains supports digestion and satiety.1
Week 3: Progress becomes clearer
By the third week, many people begin to feel more in control. The appetite suppression from Wegovy tends to be stronger and more predictable, which makes it easier to stay on track with healthy habits. At this stage, some people may notice visible weight changes, whether on the scale, in how their clothes fit, or simply in how much food they need to feel satisfied.
It’s also a great time to focus on movement. The NHS recommends aiming for 150 minutes of moderate activity each week, which is about 20 to 30 minutes a day.2 Brisk walking, cycling, or swimming all count. Even light activity can make a big difference, not just for weight management but also for energy, mood, and long-term health.
Week 4: Building momentum
By the fourth week, many people feel they’ve found their rhythm with Wegovy. Appetite control feels more natural, healthy eating habits are easier to sustain, and weight loss often becomes more noticeable.
Your clinician may also review your dose. If you’ve tolerated Wegovy well so far, they may recommend increasing it to the next step to continue building momentum. The goal is always to move at a pace that balances effectiveness with comfort.
Protecting your progress
Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy doesn’t erase the progress you’ve already made. The healthy habits you’ve built are still there, and with the right support, you can keep strengthening them.
At Numan, we place a huge emphasis on protecting your progress. That means you’ll have access to coaching designed to give you a structured framework that keeps you on track not just for weeks, but for the long term.
Research shows it takes an average of 66 days to form a new habit, and with coaching, you’ll get the support to make those habits stick.3 Whether it’s help with nutrition, exercise, or overcoming setbacks, coaching ensures that you’re never left without a plan.
Clinicians also follow up with you closely during this transition. They’ll check how you’re responding, help manage any side effects, and make dose adjustments if needed. You’re not expected to figure it out alone. The treatment is designed to be guided and supported from start to finish.
The numan take
Your first month on Wegovy after switching from Mounjaro is about adjustment. You may notice changes in appetite, side effects that come and go, or weight loss that varies from week to week. What matters most is that you’re not losing what you’ve already worked so hard for. With consistent treatment, structured coaching, and regular clinical follow-up, you can protect your progress, build momentum, and set yourself up for long-term success.
