After years of feeling lost in the demands of motherhood, Helen found herself craving a way back. Postnatal depression, lockdown isolation, and comfort eating had taken a toll on her health.

But with Numan’s Weight Loss Programme, Helen didn’t just shed pounds – she rediscovered her spark and rebuilt her confidence, one step at a time.

Let’s see how she did it.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to start Numan’s programme?

I’m 36, a mum of two toddlers, and I live near Canterbury. Before having kids, I was really active – I went to the gym, swam, and felt strong. But after my first son was born just before lockdown, everything changed. I was stuck at home with a newborn, dealing with postnatal depression, and couldn’t see family or friends for support.

I turned to comfort foods like cookies and pizza to cope. By the time I had my second son, I still hadn’t lost the weight from my first pregnancy, and I looked in the mirror one day and thought: this isn’t me anymore. That’s when I knew I needed help.

What drew you to Numan’s programme?

I knew of Numan before through their men’s health services, so when I saw their Weight Loss Programme online, I was curious. I looked into other programmes, but they all felt confusing. But Numan made a tricky decision so much easier because everything was straightforward, and I didn’t have to overthink it.

Did you try any other methods before joining the programme?

Yes, I tried a bit of everything – calorie-counted meals, shakes, and even a personal trainer. Nothing seemed to stick until I found Numan. I realised I needed structured support rather than just another quick fix.

What lifestyle changes have been the most impactful for you?

Definitely portion control and making healthier food choices. I used to snack a lot – crisps were a go-to – but now I can’t even remember the last time I had a packet. My portions are so much smaller, and I make sure my meals are filling and nutritious. I’m not a fan of meat, but I’ve found foods that work for me. Now I feel satisfied all day until dinner. I feel confident that I can keep these habits even after the programme.

Did you experience any side effects, and how did you manage them?

Yes, mostly nausea at first, which wasn’t pleasant. But Tom, my health coach, was fantastic – he’d immediately check with a clinician and give me tips, like keeping a glass permanently by the kettle so I’d remember to drink water when getting my cup of tea in the morning. It was all about finding simple habits that worked for me. I never thought something as simple as putting a glass out could help, but it did!

How has the programme impacted your mental health?

It’s been life-changing. Before, I was really low. I didn’t want to go out or even talk to people. Now, I actually enjoy the school run and chatting with other parents. I’m not hiding away anymore – it’s brought back the confidence I lost. That’s something I never expected from a weight loss programme.

Have you faced any stigma or judgement around using weight loss medication?

Oh, absolutely. I’ve seen negative comments online, like ‘why don’t they just eat less and move more?’ At first, it made me doubt myself, but then I thought, ‘this is my journey, and it’s what I needed’. People don’t understand that we’re all different, and for me, this was the right choice.

What’s your plan as you come off the medication?

I’m easing off gradually, which has been a bit nerve-wracking because I worry about slipping back. But I know that if I need support, Numan is there. The customer support has been incredible, and that gives me confidence to keep going. I even got my dad and cousin on the programme – they saw how much it helped me and wanted to try it themselves.

Any final thoughts on your journey with Numan?

Honestly, I couldn’t be happier. This programme wasn’t just a quick fix – it’s been a complete reset. I’ve learned to prioritise myself again, and I’m so much more confident. It’s been a long journey, but knowing Numan is just a call away makes all the difference. This has truly changed my life.
