When your hormones are out of balance, your body often shows the first signs. Symptoms of female hormone imbalance like weight changes, sleep disruption, irregular cycles and hot flushes can feel confusing, and it’s easy to feel in the dark about what the underlying causes could be.

At-home hormone testing can help. By giving you clearer visibility into the inner workings of your body, these tests can offer valuable insights and, when paired with clinical review of results, empower you to choose a more informed, personalised path forward.

How do they work?

Each test measures a selection of key biomarkers, which can help to indicate changes in your energy, mood, and overall health. These biomarkers range from fertility-related hormones, to vitamin levels, to hormones that may influence metabolism and thyroid function.

The results you get will depend on the test you choose, with each test targeting a different health need or life stage.

Why test with Numan?

1. Your results are reviewed by real doctors*

We don’t just drop numbers in your inbox. Our female hormone tests are reviewed by a qualified doctor, who writes a clinical note explaining what your results mean in context. You’ll get indications as to what’s “normal,” suggestions of what’s shifting, and get insight into what might need a follow-up.

2. You’re more than a set of numbers

Biomarkers can tell part of the story, but we believe the full narrative comes from combining that data with your symptoms, health history, and lifestyle factors. That’s why we strongly encourage pairing your test with a follow-up consultation with one of our doctors, so that you can interpret your results in the context of your health holistically, not just as isolated biomarkers. They can help you to make sense of your results, empowering you with the knowledge to understand next steps.

3. Precise advice with a health questionnaire

When you order a hormone test, we ask you to complete a detailed health assessment questionnaire. This helps the clinician looking at your results to understand your symptoms, lifestyle, and medical history. This information is essential for giving you a personalised interpretation of your hormone results.

4. One-off or repeated testing- it’s your choice

Life isn’t static, and neither are hormones. Whether you want a snapshot now or prefer to track your levels over time, we offer both single-test and repeat-testing options. When in transitional phases like perimenopause or menopause, following your body’s patterns and fluctuations can be especially helpful.

5. Insight, not diagnosis

It’s important to be clear: these tests are not diagnostic tools, and will not tell you whether you do or don’t have a certain condition or are at a certain life stage. What they offer is data points that you can discuss with a healthcare professional or use to guide conversations about symptoms, lifestyle changes, or further investigations and treatment.

Our hormone tests: designed for where you are now

To meet the needs of women at all stages of their hormone health journeys, we offer a curated list of hormone tests. Here’s how they can help you:

  • Thyroid Health Blood Test

For when you suspect your fatigue, weight changes, or mood shifts might relate to thyroid function.

  • Menopause Blood Test

For when you’re navigating symptoms, monitoring HRT, or want some clarity to help guide conversations with your clinician.

  • Perimenopause Blood Test

For the transitional phase when cycles are erratic and symptoms feel unpredictable. This test gives insight into which levels are shifting and what that might mean for you.

  • Complete Blood Test for Women

A broader snapshot of your reproductive hormone levels, useful if you want a comprehensive view of oestrogen, progesterone, FSH, LH, and more.

How it works

  1. Choose your test: Pick a test that matches your life stage and the questions you’re trying to answer. For example, if you're often feeling tired, you might want to test your thyroid function, or if you‘ve started to experience hot flushes and night sweats, our Perimenopause Blood Test would be the best place to start.

Note: Hormonal contraception and HRT can affect your test results. If you're using them, we can still measure key biomarkers, including: sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), free androgen index (FAI), vitamin D, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and free thyroxine (T4). However, results for testosterone, luteinising hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), oestradiol and progesterone may be less reliable for interpretation.

  2. Fill in your health questionnaire: Tell us about your symptoms, cycle patterns, medical history, lifestyle, and other factors that may shape your hormone narrative.

  3. Collect your sample at home: Your kit will be delivered within 48 hours of placing your order, along with instructions on how to collect your sample for testing. You’ll send it back to us, and your blood will be sent to our lab to have the relevant biomarkers analysed.

  4. Doctor review & report: A real doctor reviews your results, writes clinical notes, flags any causes for concern, and provides perspective on next steps.

  5. Optional consultation: You can book a follow-up consultation with a clinician to go over your results in detail, ask questions, and develop a plan.

  6. Track over time: If you choose repeat testing, you’ll begin to see trends and fluctuations that could be causing your symptoms. This can help with early detection of health issues, and can guide adjustments to your existing treatment plans.

When these tests can be especially useful

  • You’re noticing persistent symptoms and want more clarity

  • You’re in a transition phase (perimenopause, menopause) and want to understand how your hormones are changing

  • You want to monitor your hormone fluctuations over time

  • You’re proactive about health and want baseline data to guide lifestyle changes, conversations with doctors, and medical decisions

What these tests can’t do, and what they can

They can’t:

  • Replace a medical diagnosis

  • Capture every nuance of hormonal balance

  • Tell you precisely what treatment you need

They can:

  • Provide insight into whether your hormones might be contributing to symptoms

  • Reveal trends and changes over time

  • Help you and your clinician decide on next steps

  • Empower you with more agency in your health decisions

The numan take

At-home hormone panel testing isn’t a silver bullet. It is, however, a clinically-backed way for you to better understand what’s going on inside your own body, giving you the power to use that information to shape your health journey.

With doctor-reviewed results, optional consultations, and repeat testing as needed, we aim to offer women clarity, control, and support. Hormones may be complex, but understanding them doesn’t have to be.

*Numan female health blood tests are reviewed by doctors. Other Numan blood tests, including the Complete Blood Test, may be reviewed by pharmacists. Correct at the time of publication, but subject to change.
