Guy (46), who’s been on our Weight Loss Programme for the past 3 months, shares his challenges with weight and the positive changes he's made so far thanks to Numan.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what led you to start the Weight Loss Programme?

I’m originally from South London but now manage 3 leisure centres in the Basingstoke area, which might make it seem like exercising would be a breeze, but it's quite the opposite.

After doing some research and seeing what you offer, I liked the look of what Numan said and did.

What was your main motivation to start?

My main motivation is my daughter. She’s crawling and walking now. And it’s made me think of not just now, but also the future. I’m a slightly older dad so I want to make sure I’m as agile as I can be when playing with her. I don’t want to be the one sitting on the side as I can’t physically do something.

Have you tried other weight loss methods before?

I've tried every fad diet that’s out there. I even had health plans such as calorie counting through my GP. I had some success occasionally, but it always dropped off.

If you stick to it rigidly it’ll probably work but if you fall off the wagon it’s hard to get going again. And you’re always still hungry. You’re limiting your intake, but you’re constantly stopping yourself when you want to eat. For a good 25 years, I’ve been conscious of weight and it’s been a struggle. But this is a breeze at the moment.

How have you found the support from Numan's health coaches?

I speak to Charles every week. He checks in on me and how I’m doing regularly. The support has been great. Finding time to work out has been a challenge, but with the help of Charles, I'm making it work. In the first 4-5 weeks I had a few questions which he was very responsive to. Knowing that a coach is there if I run into any issues is so reassuring.

What about the Numan app? How has it helped you on this journey?

I’ve read a lot of the articles on managing weight and side effects. I also use it every week to mark when I’ve taken my medication and record my weekly weight. It's very straightforward. I like the questions about motivation and how I'm feeling. It makes you think for a second. There's plenty of knowledge if I need to refer to anything. Without a doubt, I feel more motivated after logging into the app.

What other lifestyle changes have you made while on the programme?

I've dusted off the treadmill at home and I'm finding more opportunities to be active. I'm also more confident in taking my daughter out and engaging in various activities, which previously felt more challenging. I feel more confident to go out and about and take the little one out.

How did you feel before you started with Numan?

I was always self-conscious about my weight. I didn't feel my best. It gets worse when you go on holiday and want to wear shorts and a T-shirt or go to the swimming pool. I’ve felt this way for 20-odd years. It’s always been a problem.

I did have a few years where I was young, free, and single where I went to the gym every other day and I was as light as I’d ever been. So I knew what it felt like when you’re happy with your body and weight but it was hard to maintain when other things in life changed.

How are you feeling now?

Now I love that everything is looser and baggier and I’m thinking of getting a smaller size or fitting into clothes I’ve stored away I could never get into. My legs would also really ache when I tried to sleep. Within a month of trying Numan and after losing some weight, the constant ache completely disappeared. It all works together as a package. The medication combined with the health coaching makes it very easy.
