Weight loss with Numan: Sara’s story

Sara (33), a pharmacist from London, struggled with her weight after two pregnancies. Aiming to regain her health and have more energy to play with her kids, she started Numan's Weight Loss Programme. She spoke to us about how she got on. 

Can you tell us about your background and what led you to start the Weight Loss Programme?

I’ve struggled with my weight since 2018. I tried to eat healthier and lost a bit of weight after my first child, but I never got back down to what I weighed before. Then, during my second pregnancy, I ended up putting all the weight back on.

This time, I really wanted to do something about my weight. I ate healthier and managed to lose about 5kg. But it was hard to consistently make healthy choices. I did as much as I could but working full time and having 2 kids meant that at the end of the night, I wanted something satisfying. I often ordered takeaways because I was too tired to cook. So I wanted to try something different with the programme.  

How soon did you start seeing results with Numan's programme?

I started the programme at the end of February 2023 and I started seeing results after about two months. At first, I didn’t notice a difference and I wasn’t sure if it was going to work. It does sound too good to be true. But my cravings for any sort of greasy or fatty food completely went away. I’ve now lost just over 20kg in 11 months. 

How was your relationship with our health coaches? 

I found them very helpful. They remind you to build healthy habits into your daily routine as it’s a long-term change, not a quick fix. They were friendly and supportive.

Before starting the programme, did your weight impact your confidence?

Definitely. I used to wear baggy clothes all the time. All the clothes that I liked in my wardrobe didn't fit me. Especially my pre-pregnancy clothes. I felt sluggish, I felt slow. My confidence was low. I didn’t feel like I looked nice and I couldn’t wear the clothes I wanted to wear. 

Once I started to lose weight I saw a massive difference. I started fitting into more things and buying more clothes as a result. 

What other benefits have you experienced since you lost weight?

I have so much more energy. I feel bouncier when I’m walking as I’m not dragging myself along anymore. It’s especially noticeable when I'm playing with my kids – I no longer feel slow and sluggish. Before, just standing or walking would exhaust me, as if I was being weighed down. This massive difference in my health also makes me feel so much younger. When I put the weight on, it felt like I aged 10 years. But now I feel young again. 

Do you ever still get cravings?

I do sometimes. But the difference is that I’m in control. As soon as I start feeling full it’s a good time to stop eating. Before I could eat until I felt stuffed. I think that’s been the best part of it - I can enjoy food without overeating and feeling bad about it afterwards. 

Were there any moments when you thought about giving up?

Not really because I could see the impact every month or so. The more I stuck to it with exercise and diet, the more weight I lost. I had an end goal in mind and I’ve pretty much reached it now. I didn’t have to do anything uncomfortable and I’ve seen good progress month-on-month. This motivated me to keep going. 

What's your biggest takeaway from losing weight with Numan?

There’s a bit of pressure on people after pregnancy to get back to what they were. Bodies change and you have to accept that you won’t go down to the weight you were as a teenager, but as long as you feel happy that’s the main thing. I feel more confident, look younger, and have more energy. I couldn’t be happier.
