A new version of a familiar treatment

Wegovy tablets are an oral version of semaglutide - the same medicine as the Wegovy injection, just taken differently. Instead of a weekly injection, it's a daily tablet absorbed through your digestive system.

The mechanism is the same: it mimics a natural hormone that reduces appetite and helps regulate blood sugar, taken alongside diet and activity changes.1 Wegovy tablets aren't currently licensed in the UK.

How effective are Wegovy tablets?

In a 64-week clinical trial, OASIS 4 (307 adults living with obesity or are overweight with at least one weight-related condition), participants taking oral semaglutide 25mg alongside lifestyle support lost an average of 13.6% of their body weight, versus 2.2% with placebo.1

As with all weight loss treatments, individual results varied.

The Wegovy Pill and other weight loss medications

Although the Wegovy pill and injection contain the same active ingredient, clinical data suggests the injection produces greater average weight loss in obesity trials. The same is true of other anti-obesity injections compared to their oral equivalents.1-3

Can you get the Wegovy Pill in the UK?

Oral Wegovy is not currently available in the UK. Before becoming available, they would need approval from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). If approved, further guidance form NICE would determine availability.

While some estimates suggest availability could be considered in late 2026, there is no confirmed timeline. At present, Wegovy injections remain the only semaglutide formulation licensed for weight loss.

How Numan is preparing for the Wegovy Pill

Numan doesn't currently prescribe Wegovy Pills, and they're not available through our services. However, we closely monitor emerging clinical data and regulatory developments. If oral semaglutide is approved in the UK, it would undergo careful clinical review before being incorporated into any treatment pathway.

In the meantime, Numan provides access to licensed, MHRA-approved weight loss treatments alongside structured clinical supervision, regular monitoring, and behavioural support.
