What is TRT?

Testosterone replacement therapy is a treatment that helps raise low testosterone levels in men. It’s typically used when testosterone drops below a healthy range and starts to affect everyday life: things like energy, mood, sex drive, muscle strength, and motivation.¹

Why choose Numan for TRT?

Everyone’s body responds to treatment differently, but looking at anonymised data from patients on TRT at Numan can help show what often happens early on.*

How does TRT work?

Testosterone replacement therapy is a medical treatment provided only under clinical supervision.

1. Restores testosterone levels

TRT raises circulating testosterone back into a healthy range, increasing the amount available to act on tissues throughout the body.3

2. Activates hormone pathways

Testosterone works by binding to certain receptors, triggering cellular signals that influence energy, mood, muscle, bone, and sexual function.3

3. Stability

Different formulations release testosterone at controlled rates. Regular blood tests ensure levels stay balanced, effective, and safe over time.3

Month 1-3

  • Increased libido

  • Improved energy and mood

  • Better erectile function

Month 3-6

  • Improved strength

  • Increased lean muscle mass

  • Sharper focus and motivation

Month 6 onwards

  • Faster recovery

  • Improved bone density

  • Visceral fat reduction

Who is eligible for TRT?

To be considered eligible for TRT, you must meet our criteria. Below are the testosterone level ranges to look out for after your Venous Blood Test.

While some clinics follow guidance that focuses on a threshold of 12 nmol/L, we know that some men can still experience symptoms even when their levels sit above that number. That’s why we look at your symptoms, your health history, and your blood results together, so any decision about treatment is thoughtful, balanced, and right for you.2

Level (nmol/L)ZoneAction
>15NormalTRT is usually not recommended unless free testosterone levels are low and symptoms are present.
<15LowTestosterone deficiency is likely. If you’re experiencing symptoms, TRT may be advised.

What are the risks and side effects?

TRT works well for a lot of men, but it is a prescription medicine and it does carry risks, so it is worth knowing what they are before you start rather than after.

The main one is that testosterone can raise your haematocrit, which is the share of your blood made up of red blood cells. Thicker blood is harder to pump around, and that raises the risk of clots, which is why we check your bloods before you start and keep checking them once you're on treatment.⁷

TRT can also shrink your testicles a little and lower your sperm count, so if you're hoping to have children in the near future, say so before you start. There are other options worth talking through, and it's much easier to plan for that up front.⁸

TRT does not cause prostate cancer. It can, however, speed up a cancer that's already there and hasn't been picked up yet, which is part of why the screening before treatment matters.⁹

The milder effects are the more common ones, and they're usually manageable: acne, oilier skin, some fluid retention, and occasionally breast tenderness. Most men on treatment have no serious problems at all, and the monitoring is there to catch anything early if they do.

Getting TRT safely

Wherever you get TRT, a few things should be non-negotiable. You want two separate blood tests confirming low testosterone before anyone prescribes anything, a proper consultation with a prescriber who has actually seen your results, and follow-up bloods once treatment starts.⁹

Going on testosterone treatment without any of that, whether online or someone at the gym, puts your health at serious risk.
