What is Foundayo?
Foundayo, which contains the active ingredient orforglipron, is a once-daily oral GLP-1 medicine for weight loss. It was approved by the MHRA in August 2026, making the UK the first country in Europe to authorise it. It's available now on prescription through Numan's Weight Loss Programme.1
Made by Eli Lilly, the company behind Mounjaro, it mimics the gut hormone GLP-1 to reduce appetite and help you feel more full.3 It's a distinct medicine rather than an oral version of Mounjaro, with a different active ingredient: orforglipron, a non-peptide small molecule. That chemistry is what makes it the first GLP-1 pill you can take at any time of day, with or without food, and with no restrictions on drinking water.3 Other GLP-1 tablets need an empty stomach and a fasting window. Foundayo doesn't.
How does Foundayo compare to Mounjaro?
Both are made by Eli Lilly, and both work on the GLP-1 receptor to reduce appetite. The difference is in the format and the chemistry.3
The figures below come from separate trials of different groups of people, so they're a guide rather than a direct head-to-head. The right choice depends on what you'll stick with and what's clinically suitable for you.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide)
Weekly injection that acts on two hormone receptors, GLP-1 and GIP. Average weight loss of 20.9% at 72 weeks on the highest dose (15mg) in the SURMOUNT-1 trial.4
Foundayo (orforglipron)
Once-daily tablet that acts on GLP-1 alone. Average weight loss of 12.4% at 72 weeks on the highest dose (17.2mg) in the ATTAIN-1 trial.2 No injections, and no refrigeration needed.3

Who is Foundayo for?
Foundayo can also improve blood sugar control in adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes.1 Numan prescribes Foundayo for weight management. If you're interested in it for type 2 diabetes, speak to your GP or diabetes team.
Meeting the BMI criteria doesn't automatically mean it's right for you. A clinician reviews your medical history during your online consultation and confirms whether Foundayo is clinically appropriate.
BMI of 30 or above
Licensed for weight loss and weight maintenance in adults with a BMI of 30 or more.1
BMI 27–30 with a health condition
Also licensed where your BMI is between 27 and 30 and you have at least one weight-related health condition.1

How effective is Foundayo?
In ATTAIN-1, a phase 3 trial of 3,127 adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related health condition, people on the highest dose (17.2mg) lost an average of 12.4% of their body weight at 72 weeks, compared with less than 1% on placebo.2
Researchers also saw improvements in markers linked to heart health, including cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure.2
For context, that’s a smaller average weight loss than the leading injectable treatments, and the Wegovy Pill, have shown in their own trials. Foundayo’s case isn’t maximum weight loss – it’s meaningful weight loss from a tablet that fits around your life.

Is Foundayo available on the NHS?
No. Foundayo isn’t available on the NHS yet. NICE is evaluating it, and until that process concludes it can only be prescribed privately. You can get it privately through Numan's Weight Loss Programme.1
How to start on the Numan Oral Weight Loss Programme
Here’s how the process works, from consultation to ongoing support.
1. Complete the consultation
Tell us about your health, weight history, and lifestyle, and provide a weight verification photo – an important step that helps confirm you meet the criteria.
2. Clinical review
A qualified prescriber reviews everything and confirms whether Foundayo is clinically appropriate for you.
3. Discreet delivery
If it’s right for you, your medication arrives at your door in discreet packaging, usually within a few working days.
4. Ongoing support
Health coaching, help managing side effects, dose reviews with your clinical team, and progress tracking in the app.
How to take Foundayo
Treatment starts at a low dose of 0.8mg and increases gradually through 2.5mg, 5.5mg, 9mg, and 14.5mg, up to a maximum of 17.2mg, with at least a month between each increase.3 Not everyone needs to reach the top dose. This step-up approach helps to give your body time to adjust and is intended to help keep side effects manageable.
One tablet, once a day
The only rule is one tablet every day. A regular slot makes it easier to remember, but there’s no set time.3
Any time that suits you
Take it with food or without, morning or night. No fasting window, and no restrictions on drinking water.3
Swallow it whole
Swallow the tablet whole with water – don’t break, crush, or chew it.3
What are the side effects of Foundayo?
The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion, and abdominal pain.3 Similar to other GLP-1 medicines, they tend to appear when starting treatment or increasing your dose, and usually settle as your body adjusts.
Foundayo and other weight loss medications
Foundayo sits alongside Mounjaro, Wegovy, Wegovy Pill, and Alli in Numan’s range. The injections tend to deliver larger average weight loss in trials, while Foundayo’s advantage is being a once-daily tablet with no injections, no fasting window, and no food or water requirements.
