Important details before you take your blood sample
Taking a blood test from home is relatively simple, but we’ve put together some instructions to prevent errors and ensure the process runs smoothly. Before you get started, please watch our blood test kit tutorial video.

If you’re taking the Perimenopause or Female Hormone Health Test, aim to take your sample between Days 2 and 5 of your cycle (Day 1 is the first day of bleeding).
If you don’t have periods, you can take the test on any day.

Take your test in the morning after fasting for 8 hours overnight.
If testing for testosterone, please take the test before 11am.

Drink 2 glasses of water within the 30 minutes before the test.

Post your sample shortly after drawing your blood to get an accurate reading and avoid issues with processing.
For Perimenopause, Menopause, and Female Hormone Blood Tests
If you’re doing the Perimenopause, Menopause, or Female Hormone Blood Test, the steps are a little different. Use the two options below to follow the right steps for your test, whether it’s a Tasso device or a finger-prick kit.
For all other at-home blood tests
If you’ve got an at-home blood test, take a look at the package in front of you to see which type it is, then choose the right option below to get started.
Here's how you do it
Instructions for test kits with 1x Tasso+ device
Please note that the Tasso+ device is single-use. After you attach it to your upper arm and press the red button, you might not feel the needle or see immediate blood flow - but don't worry, it's working. That's the magic of Tasso - it's virtually painless. Keep it attached until blood reaches the top fill line, as it cannot be reused once removed.

Lay your kit out on a low table, so you can stand and have your hand below your elbow – gravity helps your blood flow.

Wash your hands with soap and warm water.

On the upper section of your non-dominant arm, rub up and down for 2 minutes. Prepare the shoulder by using the alcohol swab to wipe the contact area. Ensure the shoulder is dry before attaching the Tasso+ device.

Remove the Tasso+ device from the tray.

Open the blood collection tube by twisting off the lid.

With fill lines facing out, press the blood collection tube into the Tasso+ device until snug.
7
Peel tab and clear cover from the red button on the Tasso+ device.

Stick the Tasso+ device to the shoulder and press the button until it clicks to start collection.

Allow tube to fill. Remove the Tasso+ device if blood reaches the top fill line before 5 minutes pass.

Remove the Tasso+ device by peeling from one side.

Remove the blood collection tube from the Tasso+ device with a slight twist and pull down. Replace the cap on the blood collection tube by pressing firmly until you hear it click.

Apply pressure to the shoulder with the sterile dry swab to stop the bleeding, wash hands and apply a plaster. Gently invert the tube at least 10 times but do not shake.

Place the blood collection tube into the transportation tube and press firmly to close.

Place the transportation tube into the pathoseal bag and seal by removing the metallic silver strip.

Make sure the instruction leaflet is filled in, the unique reference number is attached, and everything is placed inside the return box.

Insert the sealed pathoseal bag into the box provided and place the box into the large return envelope. Seal the envelope by removing the metallic silver strip.
17
Return your sample using a Royal Mail late collection postbox, or at a post office, before noon on the same day you collect your sample.

Instructions for finger-prick test kits

Lay your kit out on a low table, so you can stand and have your hand below your elbow – gravity helps your blood flow.

Open the blood collection tube by twisting off the lid and stand the tube upright into the holder on the clamshell.
3
Wash your hands with soap and warm water.
4
Soak your non-dominant hand in warm water for 4-5 minutes.

Swing your non-dominant arm around in a circle 10 times, fully extended if possible. Then clench your fist 10 times. This will help stimulate blood flow.
6
Wipe your chosen finger with the alcohol swab provided. Ensure your finger is completely dry as blood will not form a drop on a moist finger. Your ring finger is usually best for sample collection.

Take a lancet and rotate the protective cover once before carefully removing. Remain standing and place your whole hand on a hard surface with your palm facing up, this is important so the lancet can work properly.

Press the lancet firmly against the side of your fingertip until the lancet releases. Wipe away the first drop of blood with the sterile dry swab.

Massage your hand in a downward motion and guide the blood into the tube. Don’t squeeze too hard or too close to where you pricked your finger. You should stop at your knuckle before the tip of your finger.

If it takes more than 2 minutes to fill the tube, re-warm your hand for 4-5 minutes, repeat the exercises, and re-prick a different finger with a new sterile lancet.

Once the tube is filled to the top mark, wipe your finger with the sterile dry swab, wash and dry your hands, and apply the plaster.

Place the cap on the tube and press until you hear a click. Gently rotate the tube at least 10 times but do not shake.
